Now that you have made the decision to purchase a new mattress, there are some things you can do to help protect its appearance. Even if your new bed has come with some kind of warranty, you still want to learn how to care for your bed properly so you can get the most use from it.
When your new mattress finally makes it to your home, the first thing you need to do is to make sure that you have a good space to put it. Now this tip may seem like a no brainer, but you'd be surprised at the amount of people who choose to have their bed placed in a room, that is full of clutter and does not have enough space to let it breathe. If you have never purchased a new bed before, then you may not be aware that many new beds have a scent that is attached to them. If you don't want your room to have a new mattress smell, which could make it hard for you to get comfortable at night, then you need to make sure that your bed has a good amount of space surrounding it. Remove your bed from any wrappings and plastics that may be covering it. The goal is to lessen the amount of time you have to deal with that annoying smell. To help reduce your level of discomfort, you may want to sleep in another room for a few days until the smell is gone.
You may be anxious to be put some fancy sheets and covers on your new mattress, and while there is nothing wrong with that, you need to be aware that it is very easy for your bed to attract and hold onto moisture. To help keep the moisture at bay, you should make it a habit to air out your bed each and every morning. You can easily do this by rolling down your blankets and covers to the foot of the bed each morning.
To help maintain the strength and functionality of your bed, make sure that you have it laying on a strong and sturdy foundation. You can use a properly sized bed frame or box springs to help support your bed so that it does not become damaged in any kind of way. This will keep it from sagging.
As tempting as it is for you to eat and drink in bed, you may want to think twice before you do so in the future. Having food and drinks in the bed can easily lead to staining. Stains can greatly affect the appearance of your new mattress. Not to mention they are also very hard to get rid of. If you happen to make a mistake and end up staining your bed, clean it with some warm soap and water. Do not use any chemicals. Chemicals are not recommended for bed fabrics and can leave behind some very hazardous fumes, which can be toxic.
